is the floral tape or the masking tape you used, oven safe? i noticed you used it to do a few pre-bakes but it wasn't covered up when it went in oven.  I'm just concerned it may begin melting.

it is completely safe, it wont catch fire nor melt (it only discolors  bit)

A question. Does this works with paper mâché instead of clay? :)

I suppose it would work with that aswell, paper mache is basically like air drying clay so i think it will be fine to use with it

Is it still OK to bake the sculpure with the tape? I always thought that would be too risky...
And what kind of tape(s) can you use? As I don't have ducttape right now :/

best tape to use is masking tape/floral tape as it is less stiff then other tapes and stay's nice in lace without letting go to much, didn't use it in this tut because i didn't have it at the time, and no it is perfectly safe it wont burn in the oven on the degrees needed to bake polymer clays

This is an amazing tutorial :) I also have a question about the tape though; so, this one doesn't melt in the oven? I have no idea which tape to use in case it melts or burns in the oven.

Thankyou! ^^

nowadays i use masking tape (and often apoxy sculpt to reinforce fragile parts such as the legs for better durability) as it sticks better and isn't as stiff as the tape i used in this tut but no that tape doesn't melt or catches fire (so far nothing i have used did XD)

Does the type of tape matter, since it going to be covered up by clay?

doesnt really matter aslong as it has a texture on the service the clay can grab onto (floral tape and masking tape are the best to use as the clay grabs on easy and its much less stiff to work with

Why don't you use floral wire to strap down the aluminum foil? I use floral wire to strap down the aluminum foil in my sculptures.
I also like your animal sculptures and tutorials.

your very welcome! ah don't worry i was clueless about how to sculpt too in the beginning, you learn as you go and there's quite a lot you can find about the subject on the internet to help you, it's how i learnt sculpting anyway :3

This is so helpful, I didn't know you could safely put tape and stuff in the oven :D I like the wire wrapping technique - I'll definitely be using that, my pieces have a tendency to shed their limbs all the time XD

Perfect timing for this. I just bought some sculpting clay yesterday for a pony I plan on doing, then decided I better make sure I know what I'm doing before I just start mashing clay together. I like the pre sketches, good idea.

You use very thin wire! Do you ever have trouble with the weight of the clay?

nope i strengthen the parts that support the most with more wire and bulk some arias a lot so it works out tho my works are never really that big
