Our beloved Boy by mangakasan Our beloved Boy by mangakasan
:star: Facebook:star: [link] :star: Tumblr :star: [link]

This i made for my wonderful mum as a special christmas gift for her, it's a portrait and homage of her pet dog Boy who passed away a year and a month ago of a kidney decease.
I wanted to gift her something special this year as she actually we both had a very rough time past 3 years (well actually much longer then that) which has finally come to an closure, a gift to tell her how much i love her and how grateful i am to have her in my life and all she's done for me, and at the same time it's an tribute to the most wonderful dog who was brave enough to trust his new humans (us) after his first owners left him tied to a tree in a park, he also dragged my mother trough the rough time she had with his friendship and love for her.
Thank you boy! your not with us anymore but we will never forget you!

He's a OOAK piece that was made with super sculpey and sculpey firm over an armature base, has self made resin eyes painted in acrylics and dusted with pastels, his collar is removable and works like an actual dog collar.

Incredible! What a great likeness, and just phenomenal detail. Are the tail and leg feathers soft?

Wow this is beautiful~ The detail and form are amazing.
Do you know any good resources on how to go about making eyes like this? They add to the realism so nicely.

it might require some practice (my first batches were a complete failure) but when you get the hang of it it's worth the trouble as i think self made stuff gives so much more character and uniqueness to your character then when you insert beads/pre-made ones

Oh yeah I agree~ I've never tried using premades either; I'd rather use something I actually made. I've just been painting the eyes on so far.

Seriously??!!:la: woah I have lots of them!!!
well, I just have started with sculpture so I'm
studying all of your tutorials, however I'll try to summarize ^^;
I bought four couples of plastic eyes (so I can't put them in the oven T.T I'm so stupid)
Do you use crystal ones? but then, you can put crystal inside the oven?
and just one more, I bought four little pieces of Fimo classic and soft clay
can you give me any advise?
Sorry another one but I promise that this is the last one!!
where do you get the mane (tibetan lamb fur, like the one you used for Nox)
that you use for your figures? it's something hard to find? I say this
because I'm from Spain and here they have a poor variety =.=
Thank you so much for everything and sorry for the late
response I was trying to reduce doubts >.<

i make mine of clear resin (the only things heat resistant are resin and glass eyes/beads, if you want to use plastic i think the only option you have is to either use airdrying clay or to make a gap on the clay where the eye can fit in after its baked and you glue it in. fimo i dont have lots of experience with but i heard fimo classic is more durable then soft and doesnt get as mushy and sticky as soft. i get my hair from ebay because in my country its hard to find any of this sort of items, i usually buy tibetan lambfur because its cheaper then mohair but mohair can be used just aswell

oh, I see thank you so much for the information!!, I'll check on ebay for the fur =)
about the eyes... it's the first time I hear about the airdrying clay, so maybe I should try
another technique, at least until having some more practice ^^;
I think that by now, I'll just try with painting the eyes and then I'll see,
I can use the ones I bough for clay who dryes just letting stand =)
well, anyways I was planning on mix the classic with the soft one because of the colors
but I'll see what happens :hmm:
Then again, thank you so much for telling me all of this information :w00t:
and the help!!!:hug: I'll keep checking you works for more knowledge =)

i cast the eyes in clear resin and either cast more layers in different colors (clear resin mixed with paints) for pupil and iris, or just paint the back side when it is fully cured
