Ooak Beast of white and blue by mangakasan Ooak Beast of white and blue by mangakasan
.....Holds a dear treasure for you....XD This piece was commissioned by :icongoiku: She asked for a ninetailed fox in a traditional asian style coming down on clouds and fire with the color themes white and blue and this is what i cooked up :3 If you look closely at it's mouth it holds a little gem.
This piece is about 5 inches from chest to bum but stands a good 10 inches because of the base and it's tails (yes it really has 9 tails, they just hide among eachother XD)
It was entirely handmade with polymer and lots of apoxy clay over a wired frame, it's eyes were cast from resin and hand painted (only the gem i did not make), it was painted with acrylics and pastels/mica powders, the flames were made from fantasy/angelina film.

:star:I am opening my reservations (2 spots) for sculpture commissions as of now as i will start with these end of juli, if you want a unique one of a kind piece like this of your OC,pet or whatever you fancy, send me a note and i will put you on the reservation list for juli/august :)

Oh and don't forget about my free art giveaway Free art give away! by mangakasan the winners will be drawn next week (29th of may)!

Oh my gosh, this is simply amazing! How long does a piece this involved typically take you to complete?
mangakasan Featured By Owner Jun 17, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
That varies per piece, some come easily and take no longer then 3-4 weeks to complete, others much longer, like this one i think i started it in november and finished it only just a month or so ago XD It also depends a bit how busy i am as i have a full time job and only have so many hours a day to work on art :/

Wow, that's a long time to work on one project, I wish I had that kind of discipline:p  It's cool that you work back and forth between 2D images and sculpture. Do you think each medium helps you with the other? Like, do your sculpting skills help you understand forms more when it comes to putting them on paper?

I hope one day you'll be able to do artwork as a full time thing, you're very talented.

it surely does, when sculpting you take a lot more time to look at anatomical references and take it in more precise because it's 3D and has to look good from al side, and this surely boosts your knowledge when doing 2D art, but most of all i like variety in what i do and like to be an all round artist, it works really refreshing for me and that way i hardly get into an artblock sort of thing, when i am stuck or fed up of one piece in a certain medium i just work with another medium on another piece for a while and so forth :)

I can't get over how skilled you are. I just have to come back and admire this stunning sculpture again.

This piece of work is absolutely astonishing.
I have no words to say how perfect it is!
It has so many amazing details that I am probably not seeing a bunch of them!
I love how do you make the fur, on the neck and the swirls specially.
I think my favorite part is the head/ face. It is so realistic but has so many fantasy included!
I will only make one critique, which doesn't means I don't like this sculpture, because I totally do!
But because people usually never do it! So this is it: on the video goiku made from your sculpture,
I could see the fox's butt, and it looks like a horse one. It is a bit difficult to explain.. Horses have
butts with buttocks, it is divided. Foxes and dogs doesn't have this. Like…
I don't know, of your fox remind me of a horse.
But of course, it doesn't make your sculpture less good and I think it even match the style. But sometimes we didn't notice this details?
